MIT’s Technology Review Reveals the 2012 TR35
Top 35 Innovators Under 35 to be Honored at Technology Review’s EmTech MIT 2012 Conference in October
CAMBRIDGE, MA — August 21, 2012 — MIT’s Technology Review today announced the TR35, its annual list of 35 outstanding men and women under 35 who exemplify the spirit of innovation in business and technology. The honorees are blazing new paths in a wide range of fields, including biomedicine, computing, electronics, energy, the Web, and materials. The TR35 winners will be featured in the September/October issue of MIT’s Technology Review, and will present their work and be honored at an awards ceremony during the 2012 EmTech MIT conference, taking place October 24-26 at MIT’s Media Lab.
Ren Ng, founder and CEO of Lytro, was named Entrepreneur of the Year, in recognition of the ground-breaking Lytro camera, which tracks the direction of light to take pictures that can be re-focused on different objects in a scene after the picture is taken. Ng’s peers on the 2012 TR35 list represent companies and institutions such as Stanford University, Spotify, YouTube, Pinterest, Harvard University, DropBox and Carnegie Mellon University. The 2012 TR35 are creating more social robots, protecting our privacy, discovering life-changing health applications, and developing new services that entertain and inform us.
“The TR35 selection process continues to provide an exciting glimpse into our future,” said Jason Pontin, editor-in-chief and publisher of Technology Review. “The members of the 2012 TR35 are working to improve every aspect of our lives – from health to entertainment to energy and beyond. We are proud to honor them for their work and eager to see what the future holds for their innovations.”
The 2012 TR35 were selected from more than 250 submissions by a panel of expert judges and the editorial staff of Technology Review. Judges represented leading organizations such as Google, Harvard Medical School, Microsoft Research, MIT, and Stanford University. All of the TR35 winners for 2012 will be featured in the September/October issue of Technology Review and online today at www.technologyreview.com/tr35/.
