MIT Technology Review Promotes Kathleen Kennedy to President

Cambridge, MA – September 22, 2014: Today, MIT Technology Review announced the promotion of Kathleen Kennedy to president.

In this new role she will oversee expansion of the brand’s global partnerships, events and custom publishing businesses, as well as continuing to direct advertising sales.

Jason Pontin, editor in chief and publisher, states, “As our international, events, and custom publishing businesses have expanded to become the fastest-growing parts of MIT Technology Review’s business, it was important to recognize Kathleen Kennedy’s role with a title that clearly reflects her function. But more than that, it is a richly deserved promotion. We wouldn’t be the flourishing media organization we are today without Kathleen’s creativity, enthusiasm, and careful management.”

In her 14 years at MIT, Kathleen has helped MIT Technology Review redefine the magazine brand and achieve success in a rapidly changing market. She has established several new lines of business in the United States as well as in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. She leads events, sales, and international licensing for the company as well as the global team of the entrepreneurial support organization MIT Enterprise Forum.

Kathleen started her career in accounting at Deloitte and Touche but quickly found her true calling in media. She left the financial world to join a startup that specialized in media research for the film industry. Kathleen worked on a wide range of movies for major studios, including Warner Bros., Paramount, and 20th Century Fox.

She has been a longtime judge for the MITX awards and a distinguished juror for the Lemelson-MIT prizes, also known as the “Nobel Prize for Innovators.” She sits on the board of the MIT Enterprise Forum and was named to the 2009 Folio: 40, which recognized the most innovative and influential people in magazines.

She was in the Rising Scholar program at the University of Virginia and studied accounting at James Madison University.
