Venture capitalists are starting to treat energy technology companies like the dot coms of 1999. The percentage of total U.S. VC investment devoted to cleaner-energy companies has been steadily rising, but it shot up in 2006, when $2.4 billion went to investments in companies involved in everything from ethanol production to photo­voltaics manufacture.
