MIT Enterprise Forum NYC Expert Panel, Uber-ization: Overvalued Business Model or Underexploited Platform?
NEW YORK – October 27, 2015 – The MIT Enterprise Forum of New York (MITEF NYC) presents “Uber-ization: Overvalued Business Model or Underexploited Platform,” an expert panel of leaders from next generation “unicorn” companies who will speak about the shared economy at the latest MITEFNYC.org expert panel event.
Come meet and gain insights from the founders and leaders of Axial, Fivver, PRIV, and Handy—four of the most exciting shared economy startups right now. It will be a unique opportunity to learn more about the business models that investors view as having the potential to become “unicorns” from the founders and leaders directly.
MIT Sloan Fellow Michael Schrage will facilitate a panel discussion on how to make these business models succeed for customers, participants, and investors alike. What skills and talents win? What ways to measure, match and monetize human capital in these marketplaces work best? Is there a tad too much froth? In market sectors from beauty and wellness to talent to enterprise support, the opportunities for ingenuity and impact appear rife. This panel examines how real they are.
Fiverr is the fastest growing go-to source for marketing, PR, design, and other creative services. Handy helps people hire a plumber, painter, cleaning professionals and handyman for their homes or offices. PRIV is offering beauty services on-demand, conveniently as needed. Axial is a platform connecting capital to opportunities.
The shared or collaborative economy is big business; with 17 billion-dollar companies that have received $15 billion in funding and employ 60,000 employees, according to Jeremaih Owyand and VB Profiles.
The event was organized by Cristina Dolan, Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum of New York, and sponsored by Professor Bruce Bachenheimer and Pace University,
