MIT Technology Review Names Megan McCarthy Executive Editor
CAMBRIDGE, MA – February 12, 2018: Today, MIT Technology Review announced that Megan McCarthy has been named executive editor. McCarthy will report to Gideon Lichfield, who took over as editor-in-chief in December, and will manage the publication’s editorial staff and journalistic output.
“Megan has done it all, from Silicon Valley gossip blogging to running an algorithmic news aggregator to managing teams in major newsrooms, and she’s seen the best and the worst of the tech industry and the media that cover it,” said Lichfield. “Her experience and ideas will be invaluable to us in establishing MIT Technology Review as not only the leading voice on how new technologies will affect the world but also as a powerhouse of journalistic creativity and innovation.”
McCarthy has worked at, among others, Valleywag, Mediagazer, the New York Observer, Reuters, and Fortune, where she was deputy managing editor of Fortune.com. Most recently, she was head of editorial strategy at Alley Interactive, an agency that builds digital platforms for publishers.
“MIT Technology Review is the longest-running and one of the most prestigious publications covering technology,” McCarthy said. “I am delighted to join and help shape the future of storytelling, distribution, and conversations about technology with Gideon and the rest of the amazing team.”
McCarthy starts at MIT Technology Review on Feb. 20.
