Meetup.com was created as a site for the exchange of Beanie Babies. It became a central resource for political campaigns. Joe Trippi writes about the importance of Meetup in his recently published account of the Howard Dean campaign, The Revolution Wasn’t Televised. Now the site is trying to do its part in calming down a sharply divided nation. Its solution – bowling.

They are organizing bowling competitions nationwide between Red America and Blue America which they promise is one way to keep the campaign “out of the gutter.” 138 bowlers so far are scheduled to face off in 94 cities around the country.
